The Church of St. Matthew the Apostle is the Mother Church of Montenero di Bisaccia. It is the oldest parish in the entire town and for years was the only one. Located in the center of town, a few steps from the Town Hall, it preserves the bust of St. Matthew, carried every September 21 in procession through the town. The church, one of the oldest in the Diocese of Termoli, has a basic plan and was rebuilt in the early 20th century. The building ex novo stands on the remains of the previous church dating back to the early Norman period. The gabled facade is characterized by the presence of three portals: a main one and two smaller ones that allow access to the building via side steps. The left side facade has a lower roof than the central facade and is adorned with four longitudinal, single-light, pointed-arched windows. The upper part of the transept houses, in the center, a large pointed mullioned window, above which is an eight-beam rose window. Inside, the Church preserves an 18th-century wooden organ and choir, a polychrome marble altar, and the silver bust of St. Matthew. At the end of the right side of the Church is located the Bell Tower with a hexagonal base and cusped roof. The belfry is closed by six single-lancet windows.
