Church of San Paolo – Prata D’Ansidonia

Erected around the 8th century, it was rebuilt in Romanesque forms in the 12th century; bare elements from the Roman city above are visible in the wall face. The façade has a simple architraved portal with lunette and archivolt, two superimposed oculi (the upper one is a recent addition) and a triangular gable conclusion. The interior has a single T-shaped hall without apses, with blind arcades on the walls and remains of 13th-century frescoes; unfortunately, it suffered severe damage in the 2009 earthquake and is still waiting to be restored. The extraordinary stone ambo from 1240, which was originally in the church, has been transferred to the parish church of San Nicola di Prata d’Ansidonia.
