According to tradition, the Franciscan monastery was founded by St. John of Capestrano in 1448 on a lonely knoll, now nestled in a grove of holm oaks; a few years later they would receive substantial land donations from a nobleman of Guardiagrele. The complex, modified several times, retains an austere cross-vaulted church and a simple, linear two-level brick cloister with an elegant central well; it is still inhabited by the Friars Minor.
