The route starts in San Marco in Lamis; after a short detour, we reach the convent of St. Matthew the Apostle, then turn back and take the SP22, arriving in San Giovanni Rotondo. After visiting Padre Pio’s shrine, we leave the town heading east along a flat stretch, then tackle the long climb, first through dense woods and then out into the open, through pastures and scrubland, to climb once more to the summit of the Gargano and reach the wonderful village of Monte Sant’Angelo, where the cave of the Archangel Michael’s apparition—a UNESCO-protected site—marks the end of the Path of Peace.
