Stage 02 (Bike) – Caporciano – San Clemente a Casauria

You pass through the center of Caporciano and descend to the plain below, reaching the church of Santa Maria di Cintorelli, which marked the point where the Tratturo Magno forked, giving rise to the Centurelle-Montesecco branch. Continue eastward across the plain until you reach the hamlet of Civitaretenga; from here, descend the other slope, pass by the church of Santa Maria in Cerulis, and arrive in Navelli, one of Italy’s most beautiful villages. From Navelli, you enter the deep valley that descends to the Capestrano plain; you climb slightly until you pass through the historic center—the birthplace of St. John of Capestrano—and then descend again to the banks of the Tirino River; continue along the river to the magnificent medieval church of San Pietro ad Oratorium and, still following the riverbank, pass through Bussi sul Tirino; follow the Tratturo Centurelle-Montesecco for a short stretch, turning right uphill to reach the Rocca Tagliata pass, in the Gran Sasso mountain range; the route then descends to the Dogli district and on to Pescosansonesco, home to the sanctuary and birthplace of Saint Nunzio Sulprizio. From Pescosansonesco, continuing downhill, you pass through the center of Castiglione a Casauria and proceed on to Torre de’ Passeri until you reach the Abbey of San Clemente a Casauria.
